Passive Fire Protection Engineering

A client had a variety of over 3o ageing assets, consisting of manned installations, NPAIs, NUIs, FSUs, bridge-linked platforms,  The assets had had differing  duty holders throughout their design and production  life, meaning there were large inconsistencies with regards to PFP application. In addition, many of the facilities produced from very depleted reservoirs, and large amounts of equipment was either isolated or removed.

RJE Risk Consultants developed a bespoke fire risk assessment tool to provide a fast, conservative calculation of the risk reduction that could be afforded by PFP, and the risk to personnel through installation, inspection, maintenance, of said PFP.

An offshore survey of the platforms was undertaken during which a condition and schedule of the PFP was created. Back on the beach, the items afforded PFP were assigned a criticality dependent on what the PFP protected and whether there was a risk of a fire impairing it. The combination of the PFP schedule, anomaly report, and PFP criticality enabled the client to initiate a risk based inspection and maintenance program over their entire fleet of offshore assets.
